Industry and Trades Programs

We have many programs that target local industry and trades training, such as pre-trades electrical, plumbing, and carpentry courses, as well as WHMIS and Construction Safety training.

 



Power Engineering - Fireman Level | Davidson Print
Description: This course will assist students preparing to write the Department of Municipal Government Protection Services Boilers and Pressure Vessel Safety Unit Fireman’s Certificate. This program is appropriate for persons working as building operators in manufacturing processes dealing with steam or hot water boilers. Topics include lower pressure heat boilers, fuel and firing equipment, automatic controls, jumps, piping fittings, valves, steam and hot water heating, ventilation, basic electricity, and the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Act.

Power Engineering - 5th Class Level | Davidson Print
Description: Improve skills and knowledge of facilities using steam or hot water boilers, refrigeration equipment, pumps and heating systems. Water treatment and quality control in boilers and cooling systems are also covered. Fifth Class is the certification level for low pressure boiler operation, usually related to residential apartment and commercial buildings, and operators are limited to boiler operations of 103 kPA maximum steam pressure. Successful students will be well-prepared to challenge the Provincial 5th Class Exam.

H2S Alive | Davidson Print
Description: The Enform H2S Alive course is recognized by every company involved in the Oilfield Industry, and is generally regarded as adequate training by Oil Companies that require contractors to have Hydrogen Sulphide training. Students who successfully complete the requirements of the course will receive a temporary certificate, followed by a wallet card from Enform that expires in three years. Standard Safety instructors take great care to ensure that everyone achieves the 70% that is required to pass the written exam.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods | Davidson Print
Description: Every worker in Canada who is handling, offering for transport or transporting dangerous goods is required to be trained. Topics covered include basics of the legislation, history, the act and the regulations, and defined legislated responsibilities; the Classification System, nine classes of dangerous goods and their associated hazards; shipping names, classes, UN Number and packing groups for dangerous goods encountered on the job; and information required on the shipping document. Also covered are the requirements regarding mixed loads, segregation of dangerous goods; choosing proper means of containment; proper use of all equipment that is used in the handling, offering for transport and/or transportation of dangerous goods; and dangerous goods and ERAP’s (Emergency Response Assistance Plans) Emergency Response and Reporting Requirements. Each student receives their own Canadian Trucking Alliance TDG book.

WHMIS | Davidson Print
Description: This course gives you a working knowledge of  The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), which is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labeling of containers of WHMIS “controlled products”, the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDS’s) and worker education and training programs. Our instructors will adapt each course to apply more directly to a certain classes’ needs, and encourage students to bring actual MSDS’s of chemicals they are using in their place of work. Students will be provided with their own WHMIS workbook and WHMIS Handbook.
