Commercial Pesticide Applicator: On-Farm Fumigation | Southey
| Description: |
This course provides you with the basic knowledge of using Aluminum Phosphide for control of insects stored in grain and control of ground squirrels on your own farm. It is also for elevator employees to control insects in grain stored in the elevator. Separate application must be made to Sask Ag & Food for a license after completing the course. Part of this course was formerly known as “Grain Fumigation.” |

This one-day workshop is for producers who want a better understanding of the profitability and costs of their farming or ranching operation. By calculating your farm’s cost of production, you will be able to make more informed management decisions with respect to: the most profitable crops on your farm, the cost effectiveness of crop inputs, whether to buy or produce livestock feed, and whether to purchase or lease additional land. Welding Applied Certificate [SIAST] | Southey
| Description: |
This program provides the basics of Level 1 apprenticeship and prepares you for the standards set by the Apprenticeship & Trade Certification Commission (ATCC). Graduates who have a 70% weighted point average will, upon becoming indentured, be able to apply to the ATCC to receive credit for Level 1 technical training.
The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission grants credit for Level 1 apprenticeship training. Students are granted credit for hours in school once they become indentured apprentices. |

You will practice fundamental employability skills related to oral and written communications. You will also learn personal employability skills and the effect of attitudes and behaviours on a successful job search. |
MATH 125 Industrial Mathematics
|
The course covers whole numbers, common and decimal fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, angular measurements, and length, area and volume measurements in the imperial and metric systems. You will also learn to perform calculations as applied to the trade. |
METL 100 Metallurgy & Metal Heat Treatments |
You will become familiar with the physical and chemical properties of commonly used metals in the welding trade. You will study the effect of the heating and cooling cycle involved in welding operations (with particular attention given to the heat affected zone). You will also review the use of heat to correct distortion and to change the physical properties of metals, and the classification system for identifying metal. |
PRNT 114 Blueprint Interpretation |
You will develop your ability to read and interpret basic welding and fabricating drawings. The course covers the basic elements of a blueprint, weld symbols, joint types, structural shapes, developing a bill of material and using the imperial and metric systems of measurement. |
SFTY 115 Welding Safety |
Your studies will focus on general safety as it applies to the welding trade. You will learn how to use fire fighting equipment and prepare the work area for safe welding operations. |
WELD 104 Cutting Processes |
You will acquire skill in using freehand and guided methods for cutting mild steel. The freehand method is used to make straight cuts in 14 gauge and straight cuts, beveled cuts and pierce holes in the plate. The guided method is used to do straight cuts, bevel cuts, and cut circles from plate. You will also be introduced to plasma arc cutting. |
WLDR 121 Gas Metal Arc Welding 1 |
You will be introduced to the gas metal arc welding process. The course content includes setting and adjusting the welding equipment for welding steel and aluminum. You will also receive an introduction to flux core welding. |
WLDR 122 Gas Metal Arc Welding 2 |
Building on the theory learned in WLDR 121, you will develop practical skills for welding steel aluminum and flux core welding. |
WLDR 123 Oxy-Welding |
You will learn how to safely operate and maintain oxyacetylene equipment used for welding. The course content includes the types of flames and their chemistry, the selection of filler metal and a comparison of fusion welding to braze welding. |
WLDR 124 Shielded Metal Arc Welding |
You will be introduced to the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process. The course content includes setting and adjusting the welding equipment for welding steel and electrode selection. |
WLDR 125 Shielded Metal Arc Welding 2 |
You will continue developing practical skills in using the SMAW process (including vertical fillets). |
WLDR 126 Shielded Metal Arc Welding 3 |
Building on the knowledge gained in WLDR 124 and WLDR 125, you will continue to develop practical skills for welding in the flat, vertical and horizontal positions. |

| Description: |
The Enform H2S Alive course is recognized by every company involved in the Oilfield Industry, and is generally regarded as adequate training by Oil Companies that require contractors to have Hydrogen Sulphide training. Students who successfully complete the requirements of the course will receive a temporary certificate, followed by a wallet card from Enform that expires in three years. Standard Safety instructors take great care to ensure that everyone achieves the 70% that is required to pass the written exam. |

Transportation of Dangerous Goods | Southey
| Description: |
Every worker in Canada who is handling, offering for transport or transporting dangerous goods is required to be trained. Topics covered include basics of the legislation, history, the act and the regulations, and defined legislated responsibilities; the Classification System, nine classes of dangerous goods and their associated hazards; shipping names, classes, UN Number and packing groups for dangerous goods encountered on the job; and information required on the shipping document. Also covered are the requirements regarding mixed loads, segregation of dangerous goods; choosing proper means of containment; proper use of all equipment that is used in the handling, offering for transport and/or transportation of dangerous goods; and dangerous goods and ERAP’s (Emergency Response Assistance Plans) Emergency Response and Reporting Requirements. Each student receives their own Canadian Trucking Alliance TDG book. |

WHMIS | Southey
| Description: |
This course gives you a working knowledge of The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), which is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are cautionary labeling of containers of WHMIS “controlled products”, the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDS’s) and worker education and training programs. Our instructors will adapt each course to apply more directly to a certain classes’ needs, and encourage students to bring actual MSDS’s of chemicals they are using in their place of work. Students will be provided with their own WHMIS workbook and WHMIS Handbook. |
